Halal food history in Suzhou is as long as the history of Islam in Suzhou. However, there was no much record in this regard. Muslim food industry saw rapid growth in 1980’s in Suzhou with over 15 enterprises engaged in the Halal Food industry in Suzhou, some were state owned and most were private owned. Famous Muslim restaurants in 1980’s in Suzhou were Hongshunxing restaurant at Guanqianjie (观前街鸿顺兴), Qingxiangzhai Restaurant at Taijiannong (太监弄清香斋菜馆), Islam Restaurant at Chayuanchang (察院场伊斯兰菜馆), etc. However, Muslim restaurants experienced hard time in 1990’s because of the large scale city infrastructure construction. Many Muslim restaurants were torn down that they did not have enough investment to rebuild them.

Currently the most common Muslim restaurants in Suzhou are Lanzhou Beef Noodle Restaurants which can be easily found in Suzhou. The Uyghur Xinjiang Restaurant of Beijiang Restaurant has become the Muslim Restaurant Chains inSuzhou with four restaurants in different parts of Suzhou.
